2/12/11 Easihair: Destination NYC Fashion Week

Article by Christopher Box

And we are off!

I caught the 7:00 o’clock flight with no hitches and even got lucky enough to have the seat empty next to me! Always a good sign! I got snuggled into my seat with my headphones on and hit play on my iphone.

I swear to you I am not making this up. Jaz-Z and Alicia Keys started singing to me about NEWWW YOOORK!  Ha! I kinda giggled. How cliche and yet so perfect. Off to the original city of opportunity. These streets will make you feel brand new and these lights will inspire you! Yeah, I guess thats true.

I pull out my new book, “It’s Not Really About the Hair” by Tabatha Coffey. I kinda devoured it! I got 3/4 through it. An easy read but more than a little bit entertaining. She is most def an inspiration of mine. It just goes to show you that hard work does pay off. If you haven’t read it I highly recommend. I mean, any women who grows up around drag queens cannot be boring, right.

The plane touches the ground and I am off.

Brigitte Bardot: The Original Bed Head

Article by Brad Bykkonen

And God Created Woman.

We know that to be true but it was the film of the same name that created the "sex kitten" Brigitte Bardot. 1956 was the year that this iconic look was created. Hard to believe that this post coital look was born in the 50's later to be named the "bed head" look.

Not even the Farrah, Madonna, or the Rachel have lasted as long as Brigitte Bardot's sex kitten look. It made a brief resurgence in the late 80's Guess campaign with Claudia Schiffer but didn't catch on again until we started embracing hair add on's.

Brothers Bonded in Weave

Christopher Box and Paul Reynolds at a factory in China Septemeber 2007

Article by Christopher Box

1/26/11 My trip to San Diego to visit the owner of easihair, Paul Reynolds was a success.

Paul and I have had our differences in the past. The things you don’t like in people are actually reflections of parts of yourself. It’s easy to tell someone all the things you would do differently and actually do them when you get to be in their shoes.   Owning The Beauty Box Salon has helped me to better understand this.

This trip was different. I feel that Paul and I both have grown as people. It’s funny what age can do to you. It has a way of softening and blending the rough edges. Your priorities shift and your mind just processes things differently. I think one of the biggest lessons I have learned in my 30’s is that it really isn’t all about me!

It’s been a long time since Paul and I were on the same page. It’s taken 2 1/2 years for us to reach this place again.

Did the stars align? Is cosmic fate?

No, I think it’s not giving up on something.

I think when you believe in the hair extension industry as much as Paul and I do, that not keeping in contact with each other is just not an option. We are brothers bonded in weave. I had to say that, kinda makes me giggle a little bit.

Our passion for the hair extension industry is at times exhausting! We can talk for hours with enthusiasm about all the many things that make up the hair extension biz. Our combined knowledge of hair extensions is staggering! You would not believe just how much you don’t know about hair extension. I got back to my hotel and was so exhausted I went to bed at 10:30 (which is crazy early for me) with my head spinning with ideas.

I spent the next day in the office setting up a film studio. I took Paul through the process of filming. Easihair’s goal is to provide awesome education on the fly via videos and blogs. This is exciting to me because I am a man of technology. Being able to get info from a company like easihair as it happens will be a big asset to my continued growth as a business. I think we did an awesome job. I think he know understands that making good videos is a lot more  difficult than he thought!

Paul and I went to dinner at one of my favorite places in SD, Lei Lounge. This was after two days of working in the easihair office and the night before I went back home to Dallas. Paul and I ordered a couple of drinks and began recapping the past couple of days.

The question came up, “why are we still talking about hair right now”. For the past 3 days it has been a gossip fest on all things hair extensions. I quickly replied, “I want to be part of something bigger than myself”.

The words kind of hung in the air for a minute. I could tell Paul was processing what I said. Immediately I felt that I had hit on something.

This is the jest of what I said:

“I love this industry. What I do is not all about the money. It isn’t about the quick buck to be made on hair extensions. I provide a service that changes peoples lives. I want to reshape the way hair extensions are done and how companies like easihair provide those products.

The hair extension industry is a mess. Too many products and not enough quality. I want to start a hair revolution! I want to give others the tools to do what I do!”

At this point I stood up on the chair and exclaimed to everyone at Lei Lounge, “ I WANT TO BE A PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER THAN MYSELF!”

The crowd clapped and I was given an award for World Weave I mean World Peace!

Umm, well maybe the last part didn’t happen but at that moment it was how I felt.

Paul and I continued our convo. As it turns out he shares a lot of my convictions.

We wrapped up and headed back to so Paul could drop me at my hotel. I got out of the car and grabbed my bag. Paul got out, gave me a hug and then shook my hand.

“Thanks”, he said.
I said in my best South African accent (Paul is South African), “Pleasure, Mate.”

I took the stairs to my room on the 6th floor processing what the past 3 days meant to me.

As I drifted off to sleep I truly I could honestly say I felt lifted and very much a part of something bigger than myself.

Kelis Screams- Hot Hair and Hot Beats

-Video Posted by Christopher Box

We all remember when Kelis her milkshake was bringing all the boys to the yard. Yeah, I could live without ever hearing that song again!

When I first heard this album I was taken back. Was this really Kelis? I have been jamming to this whold disc for the past 6 months. It only seems to get better with time. She has truly reinvented herself this time.

Unreality Shout Blog Says:

"Interesting choice of single, because if anyone has "earned right to scream and shout", Kelis is at the top of that list now that her latest album 'Flesh Tone' has been certified, what... plastic? It's quite an achievement that she’s managed to squeeze out a third single. After 'Acapella' went Top 5, it "all came down" on Kelis. Her album barely scraped the Top 40 and the sterling '4th Of July (Fireworks)' went underappreciated at #32. So now she's going back to David Guetta, and hoping the French hit-maker can spin a bit of his Midas Touch on 'Scream'."

I love this song. I do feel the need to scream and appreciate that there is a song about it. Her Grace Jones video persona and her slick beats makes my car shake on my way to make the world a prettier place.

Download the whole thing! Check out Fireworks, Acapella, 22nd Century, and Brave

"Scream"

Been running in place for such a long time
Stuck in a race in the wrong line
When it all came down on me.
And I havent had faith for such a long time
Am I outta place or out of my mind
Should it all fall down on me

Its not enough to live so just dream
Its not enough to live so just dream
Its not enough to live so just dream
Its not enough to sing so just scream

Youll never know
If you dont let it out
You've had enough
Thell call your bluff
You cant back down lost in a crowd
Youve won the right to scream and shout
They'll talk about you lost your cool
There is no point who makes the rules
So lets get to it
Now youll prove it
Break out

Scream and shout
Scream and shout
Scream and shout
Scream and shout

Been running in place for such a long time
Stuck in a race in the wrong line
When it all came down on me.
And I havent had faith for such a long time
Am I outta place or out of my mind
Should it all fall down on me

Its not enough to live so just dream
Its not enough to live so just dream
Its not enough to live so just dream
Its not enough to sing so just scream

Sound the alarm
Raise your arms
Your on your own
Your not alone
Big city got you on the ground
Afraid to fight dont make a sound
So lets get to it
Now youll prove it
Push back

Scream and shout
Scream and shout
Scream and shout
Scream and shout

Been running in place for such a long time
Stuck in a race in the wrong line
When it all came down on me.
And I havent had faith for such a long time
Am I outta place or out of my mind
Should it all fall down on me

Its not enough to live so just dream
Its not enough to live so just dream
Its not enough to live so just dream
Its not enough to sing so just scream

easihair & Jon Renau Prepare to Support Fashion Week- Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week 2011

Article by Paul Reynolds

Is it February already?  It happens every year without fail; just yesterday I felt like I was frantically repeating my New Year’s resolution over and over in the hopes that I’d wish them true and successful?

Fast times and good news; as the time flies we find ourselves face to face with  the biggest fashion event of the year;  Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Fall 201 kicks off Tomorrow February 10th 2011.  In talking to the usual suspects of Fashions, fall 2011 is threatening to be the best ever as Fashion Week settles into its new posh upper West Side residence at the Lincoln Center with the Bryant Park seeming an overcrowded distant memory.

On the opposite side of the country, the West Coast the best Coast, the excitement is reaching a boiling point at easihair’s San Diego headquarters.  Team easihair, lead by  Jennifer Edward, Director of Education, fills the last suit case with easihair’s easiLengths as they prepare to race to the airport to catch a red eye to New York City where easihair will be assisting industry greats Rodney Cutler, Peter Gray and Sarah Potempa.

Time is tight though; and with a NYC JFK touchdown scheduled at  5:35am, the frightfully early 6am Nicholas K call time may find Jen and her team starting late and the Rodney Cutler team  waiting on hair. Rodney Cutler once again leads the week with more fashion teams creating more looks for more big name designers than any other!  With almost 40 shows this year and working with the likes of Vivienne Tam, Rebecca Taylor, Carlos Miele, Tadashi, Binetti, Odd Molly and thirty or so others Cutler knows how to deliver great hair under pressure!!   Cutler is one cool calm and collected customer and with his long history at fashion week I’m sure he’s got it all under control and it’s all old hat for the down to earth Aussie Legend!  Although we cannot let the cat out of the bag on the big name hair looks; allow us to say be on the look out and get ready to say wow!

easihair will be supporting Aussie Super Star and NYU Alumnus Sarah Potempa with young up and coming designer Jenni Kayne!  Sarah who’s extensive experience as a freelance editorial stylist  include work for renowned magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, Real Simple and  Seventeen as well as a long list of Celebrities including Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Emmy Rossum, Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley and Chase Crawford, Glee’s Lea Michele as well as advertising campaigns for Converse by John Varvatos, Sephora, and Levi’s.

We’re excited to see Jenni’s Fall 2011 collection.

It doesn’t stop there; as the week progresses the hair action gets hotter and hotter.  The next big name in hairdressing, Guido Palau big, is Peter Gray a man known for his super creativity and calm under pressure demeanor.   This year easihair and Jon Renau will assist Peter in dressing the hair for Fashion Icon’s like Betsy Johnson and big name designers like Badgley Mischka.  This will be our 3rd season supporting Peter with his fashions who’s who and we’re super excited to see where peter will take the easihair extensions and Jon Renau wigs.  One thing we know for sure is; if Peter Gray’s involved, the looks will sizzle.

And then there is the weather; team easihair’s prediction is that not even the fierce weather will stop the A-list celebrities and fashionista from walking the red carpets to catch a glimpse of fashion at its best!

Stay tuned for team easihair’s backstage and runway  posts showing you fashion first!
